SOLAR + STORAGE
Europe’s Summer Power Update Highlights Solar and Storage
Europe’s August electricity update highlights the importance of using midday solar generation during evening demand peaks.

What the August update reported
On 11 August 2026, the European Commission reported that Europe’s electricity system remained stable during heatwaves and drought. The coordination group identified no short-term adequacy risks at that meeting, although supply conditions were expected to remain tight in the following week.
The update said strong solar generation helped relieve pressure on midday electricity prices. It also highlighted storage as important for moving surplus solar output into evening demand peaks. Cross-border coordination and voluntary demand-side measures were part of the response.
From solar capacity to the timing of energy use
Our interpretation: the practical question for a commercial buyer is not simply how much solar can fit on a roof. It is how the planned generation profile compares with the site’s operating hours. A daytime factory and an evening-focused facility need different project briefs, even where their annual electricity consumption is similar.
Before requesting a solar-plus-storage configuration, organise the information around when energy is generated and when it is needed. This makes the discussion more specific than an annual consumption figure alone.
Prepare a clearer enquiry
- Provide available interval consumption data and typical operating hours.
- Describe roof space, existing PV equipment and available electrical drawings.
- Separate self-consumption goals from backup-power requirements.
- Identify any export limitations that need confirmation with the local network operator.
Do not turn a regional event into a site forecast
The Commission’s statement describes conditions at a particular date. It is not a forecast of every European customer’s electricity prices or outage risk. A project proposal still needs site-specific inputs; the update alone cannot establish battery size, savings or payback.
